Han Solo Movie: Who is Dryden Vos? Who is Paul Bettany's character?

Han Solo may toe the line between good and bad with a skilled aplomb, but Dryden Vos is unequivocally the baddie of the new Star Wars movie, Solo.

Who is Dryden Vos in the Han Solo movie?

Dryden Vos is the leader of the criminal gang Crimson Dawn.

He is described by Tobias Beckett (played by Woody Harrelson) as a big shot gangster.

Vos is essentially a mob boss and Han’s main foe.

Dryden Vos was set to be played by Michael Kenneth Williams when Solo: A Star Wars Story was first filming.

At the Solo press conference, Bettany told the story of Howard’s instruction when he arrived on set: think oligarch.

Vos does come across in that eerily magnanimous way that a powerful but corrupt oligarch might; charming but deadly.

Bettany said: “[Vos is] somebody who is deliciously bad and really OK with it. No neurosis. No guilt. Just super-happy about being evil.”

The slew of scars on Bettany’s face certainly help hammer home the message – Dryden Vos is a bad guy.

The Han Solo movie makes Vos out to be ruthless, but not crude, and he surrounds himself with luxury, befitting a criminal leader of his standing.

Vos’ crime syndicate, the Crimson Dawn, is a swiftly rising group of reprobates that Vos employs to stage a heist.

Not much else is known about Vos role in the Han Solo movie.

Though Han Solo is a smuggler and a criminal himself, as are most of the people he will encounter in the Solo movie, on the spectrum of good and evil, Vos is most certainly at the far evil end.

Bettany reportedly turned down the role of Prince Phillip in The Crown to work on Solo: A Star Wars Movie.
