Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, which was released in the USA last week, is one of Universal Studio’s biggest successes.

Not content to rest on the laurels of what was, Jurassic World brought the franchise into the modern blockbuster era.

How much has Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom made?

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is as Universal’s second-highest North American debut, making a confirmed £111.45 million ($148m).

The Jurassic World sequel comes second to its predecessor.

2015’s Jurassic World made £157.24million ($208.8million) during its opening in June 2015.

The dinosaur sequel opened in 4,475 venues.

The fifth movie in the dinosaur franchise was the top grossing movie for its North American debut weekend of June 22 to 24.

In the UK where Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom opened on June 5, the dinosaur movie led the opening weekend with £3.2million in takings.

However, this is a significant drop from its predecessor’s box office takings – a 55 percent drop to be precise.

Despite the decrease, Fallen Kingdom’s box office takings are impressive given the movie was released on a non-holiday weekend in the USA.

This achievement makes Jurassic World 2, and Incredibles 2, the two films to debut on more than £75.3m ($100m) in back-to-back non-holiday weekends for the first time.

According to Box Office Mojo, the Jurrasic World sequel comes in third for opening weekends in June.

For some context, the Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom had a production budget of £128m ($170m).

However, it remains the fourth-biggest opening of 2018, coming in behind Avengers: Infinity War, Black Panther, and Incredibles 2.

The fifth Jurassic Park movie has grossed a mountainous total of £535.83m ($711.5m).

Not taking into account inflation, the dinosaur movie has made more worldwide than Godzilla (2014), King Kong (2005), Skull Island (2017) and The Lost World (1997).

Forbes predicts it’s highly likely Fallen Kingdom will become the 35th movie to earn one billion dollars.

Superhero star Chris Pratt joined as protagonist Owen Grady for the first Jurassic World movie released in 2015.

Alongside Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard signed on as Claire Dearing.

Jurassic World was also helped by cameo appearances from original trilogy star Jeff Goldblum as Dr Ian Malcolm.

BD Wong reprised his role as Dr Henry Wu for both the 2015 Jurassic World and the 2018 Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom.

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is in cinemas now.
