Former Napoli boss Sarri is expected to become the new head coach at Chelsea.

However, current Blues manager Antonio Conte has returned to the club for pre-season training and does not seem keen on leaving on his own accord.

And McManaman has criticised the way Chelsea have gone about their business.

“Well it’s certainly not helping is it,” McManaman said of the managerial situation.

“I don’t think the players have a healthy respect for Antonio Conte unfortunately.

“I don’t think it should matter, he’s the manager and he’s turned up for pre-season training.

“But everybody knows the rumour mill at Chelsea is ridiculous at the moment, I think people are just waiting for him to go.

“It’s not a case of ‘he’s definitely going to go’ but they’re just waiting for him to go and Sarri to come in.

“They haven’t covered themselves in glory at all Chelsea, the way they’ve gone about their business was awful really.”

And McManaman went on to say Sarri, if appointed, will have no time to sign players he wants, with the transfer window shutting on August 9.

“Buying players (will be a problem), because the transfer window closes really early in England this year of course with the new ruling,” the former England midfielder said.

“So you haven’t got any time at all to get your house in order.”
