World Cup song Three Lions Football’s Coming Home is UK No1 on Big Top 40

Frank Skinner, David Baddiel with The Lightning Seeds have done it again.

An incredible 22 years after it’s original release at EURO 1996, Three Lions is UK No 1 once again.

The World Cup anthem topped last week’s chart winner Solo by Clean Bandit and Demi Lovato.

Three Lions was only No 33 when it entered the Top 40 last week, but has risen to the very top after England’s 2-0 quarter finals win against Sweden.

Vodafone Big Top 40 radio show revealed the news yesterday afternoon, after Three Lions was 3-1 to top the charts.

The figures include radio airplay and streaming figures from iTunes and Apple Music only.

Three Lions first hit the top of the UK Singles Chart when it was released in 1996, where it remained at No 1 for two weeks.

Come the 1998 World Cup the song was re-released as 3 Lions ’98 and was top of the charts for three weeks that time around.
