The trailer is coming up this weekend, and the actor – who was seen in the role in last year’s Justice League – is underwater surrounded by creatures like sharks and whales in the dramatic image.

“Home is calling,” reads the tagline.

Aquaman, due out on December 14 in the UK, boasts a cast that also includes Nicole Kidman as Queen Atlanna, Amber Heard as Mera and Willem Dafoe as Nuidis Vulko.

Randall Park, Patrick Wilson, Dolph Lundgren and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II are also on board.

Momoa recently told Collider of the blockbuster: “It’s like Star Wars, it’s just a world we haven’t seen before.

“And, I think the bickering between the two of them [Aquaman and Mera] and also when they slowly start to enjoy each other and fall in love, I think it’s just a timeless story that’s just fun.

“And, I love the fact that we haven’t been underwater and, like, what we showed at Comic-Con was just showing that it’s gonna be like, when the s**t hits the fan it’s gonna be like Star Wars underwater-it’s cool!”

He added: “I’m a huge f***ing Star Wars fan and I’ll never be anything remotely as good as Indiana Jones, but we can sure as f**k try!

“I mean, like, I’ll never ever, ever beat him, but if we’re modeling after that, then, great, I’ll do my best. It’s something good to strive for.”

Heard told the same publication: “I was drawn to the script because it didn’t sacrifice one element in order to achieve the other. It’s doing it all.

“It’s as much adventure as it is classic superheroes, as it maintains elements of rom-com. I mean, it has all of these elements.

“And, of course, done by a horror master. So I really like that our film kind of respects all these different genres.”

She continued: “I was drawn to the adventure probably the most. The locations on this alone, I mean, the table read was fun. To just listen to it, it’s a real adventure, and that’s without any visuals, as you can imagine.”

Justice League failed to impress audiences or critics, so DC will no doubt be hoping that Aquaman can bring them back to their Wonder Woman-style standards.

Aquaman is out on December 14.
