Small in size but big on humour and heart, the first Ant-Man was content to let the other swaggering Marvel franchises strut their stuff.

Not any more.

Ant-Man and the Wasp shows director Peyton Reed is willing to play with the big boys as he delivers a sequel that builds on all the treats of the first movie but is also a hugely powerful link between Infinity War and Avengers 4.

Even Marvel boss Kevin Feige has stressed how “important” this movie is and every fan and critic who went to the first LA screening seems to agree.

REVIEWS ROUND-UP NEXT:

Scott Menzel: Ant Man and The Wasp is good old fashion fun. A nice change of pace from the other Marvel films earlier and is entertaining from beginning to end. Paul Rudd is hilarious and Evangeline Lilly was so bad ass.

Drew Taylor: A tiny take: #AntManAndTheWasp was a total blast. Romantic, energetic and a lot of fun. Mr Peyton Reed left unchained and left to his own devices is glorious and totally bonkers and brilliant.

Simon Thompson: Ant-Man is my favorite Marvel movie. This is the sequel I’d been hoping for. I was grinning from ear to ear from start to finish. Irresistibly good fun. As exciting as it is funny, it locks along nicely and it’s visually stunning!

Most comments highlighted how the film’s frothy tone is necessary after the heavy blows of Infinity War. However, many also draw attention to the end credit scenes.

It seems something will happen or be shown that transceneds the film.

Marvel has frequently used the cloing credit scenes to introduce characters or themes that play into the larger storylines of the franchise. Ant-Man and the Wasp must show something that links directly to Avengers Infinity War or Avengers 4.

BenMeckler tweeted: “Some twists and turns that’ll leave those left heartbroken by the events of INFINITY WAR with something to look forward to.”

Kylie Erica Mar added: “The end credit scene is the best part of the whole film and the only thing I can think about right now.”

Brandon Davis summed it up: “Ant-Man and The Wasp has two post-credits scenes you can’t afford to miss.”

Ant-Man and the Wasp is out on July 6 in the US and August 3 in the UK
