Ant-Man and the Wasp: What are Pym Particles? Fans BLAST this major Marvel mistake

Ant-Man and the Wasp isn’t just a cute Marvel movie aimed at families looking for some light relief after Infinity War. It isn’t just the comedy filler between the main action.

What happens in Ant-Man 2 could have huge impact on Avengers 4 and even the upcoming Captain Marvel movie.

It all centres on the Pym Particles.

Iron Man and the Wakandans are so sure they hold all the tech cards, but Hank Pym actually discovered the science that could save the entire universe.

Even if, as some fans claim, it doesn’t make sense and even contradicts itself.

Pym particles are as-yet unexplained sub-atomic phenomenon which can alter the size and mass of objects or living beings. The first movie loosely explained that this is achieved by shrinking or expanding the space between the atoms.

One fan has generated huge discussion by questioning this, since then the object should still weigh the same, whatever its current size. So the tiny Ant-Man would actually crush any ant he tried to ride and the giant Ant-Man would be a lightweight in every sense.

Is it all nonsense?

Fans quickly replied: “Gee. It’s almost like comics books aren’t reality,” and “If you want a decent story that follows the laws of physics, Marvel comics may not be for you.”

Other were less playful, blasting: “Sounds like a pretty lazy way to ensure that future comic writers can do whatever they want with no cannonical repercussions.”

Of course, it’s best not to closely examine how Superman flies, gamma radiation makes Bruce Banner infinitely strong based on anger or how Flash does anything.

But, in fact, the Pym Particles bypass the Square-cube law of physics.

Galileo discovered that as an object grows larger, its surface area grows quadratically while its volume grows cubically. So, if a man suddenly became 10 times taller, wider, and longer, his bones and tendons would be 10 times longer, his muscles and skin would cover 100 times more surface area, and he would be 1,000 times as big and weigh 1,000 times as much.

The Pym Particles, apparently, exchange mass to and from a dimension called Kosmos Dimension, which was discoeverd by Janey Van Dyne’s father.

The users can also learn to intuitively fine-tune the different aspects of each size change along three axes of strength, size and durabilty. The comics handily explained it in the image below..

The science, bith real and comicbook, may be a bit of a mindbender.

However the Pym Particles allow access to the Quantum realm and are expected to also permit some form of time travel. Both concepts are expected to feature heavily in both the Captain Marvel and Avengers 4 movies – amd how the surviving heores ultimately defeat Thanos.

So pay attention to all that pesky science in between the laughs while you are watching Ant-Man and the Wasp. It could save the entire universe.

ANT-MAN AND THE WASP IS OUT ON JULY 5 IN THE US AND AUGUST 3 IN THE UK
