Ant-Man and the Wasp stars two Wasps, Evangeline Lily as Hope van Dyne, and Michelle Pfieffer as her mother, Janet van Dyne.

Fans expecting to recognise Janet from the first movie won’t since she was mentioned mostly by name, used mostly as a plot device to explain Hank Pym’s (Michael Douglas) particular brand of melancholy.

However, Janet did appear in Ant-Man played by Hayley Lovitt, most recognised as a regular on the show The Gifted, in a cameo flashback sequence.

Ant-Man comic fans will know Janet well, but fans of the movie alone may not have as much of a background knowledge as to the wife of Hank Pym.

ANT-MAN WASP RELEASE: WHEN DOES ANT-MAN AND THE WASP COME OUT IN UK AND USA?

Janet van Dyne is the mother of Evangeline Lilly’s Hope van Dyne and a scientist, like her husband Hank Pym.

Janet vanished years before the 2015 Ant-Man movie when she shrank down to subatomic size and was lost in some kind of quantum realm

At the end of original Ant-Man movie, Hope received her mother’s suit and takes over the mantle of the Wasp.

The Wasp was placed 99th on IGN’s Top 100 Comic Book Heroes of All Time in May 2011and 26th in their list of “The Top 50 Avengers” in 2012.

Evangeline, the new Wasp, told Variety the characters would be trying to enter the Quantum Realm in Ant-Man and the wasp, and their possible success would open a whole entire new multi-verse to enter into and play around in for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The reveal for Michelle Pfeiffer as The Wasp came in the form of the character poster releases.

Ant-Man and the Wasp isn’t the only Marvel movie Michelle Pfeiffer will appear in.

Sebastian Stan, who plays Bucky Barnes, told the Independent both Michael Douglas’ Hank Pym and Michelle Pfeiffer’s Janet van Dyne will appear in a scene in Avengers 4, along with nearly the entire cast, from the third Avengers film.

Stan said: “I can’t really talk about that scene, but I knew it took them three months in planning this scene to have everyone there.

“You look around and you just saw everyone from Samuel L. Jackson to Michael Douglas to Michelle Pfeiffer. Everybody was there,” he added.

Michelle Pfeiffer’s breakout performance as gangster moll Elvira Hancock in Scarface garnered her strong reviews, and she earned the first of several consecutive Golden Globe Award nominations for her starring role in Married to the Mob.

Casting Pfeiffer as the Wasp was a smart movie. Pfeiffer is a renowned and multifaceted actress with numerous awards and accolades who brings an added element of serious acting to the Ant-Man and the Wasp superhero flick.
