Avengers 4 directors reveal what Disney REALLY thought of Avengers Infinity War’s ending
It was a devastating finish for a family film: The villain Thanos succeeded and murdered half the universe.
Not exactly your standard Disney “happily ever after” ending was it?
Well, now Avengers Infinity War directors Joe and Anthony Russo have revealed if the House of Mouse were concerned by such a finale.
According to Deadline, the Avengers 4 duo were speaking at Business Insider Ignition, when they gave the answer.
Joe replied: “We did not [get any notes of concern]. They were incredibly encouraging of the choices we made.”
Anthony Russo added: “The only way to drive a conversation is to surprise people.
“If you’re constantly adhering to convention, you’re not going to surprise people.
“[Plot twists properly done create] “pop culture talking points for an audience. But they’re also just good narrative.”
Much to Edwards surprise Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy gave him the go ahead.
Edwards continued: “We thought we weren’t going to be allowed to but Kathy and everyone at Disney were like ‘Yeah it makes sense. I guess they have to because they’re not in A New Hope.’”
Despite having permission, the director remained paranoid the House of Mouse would change their mind and make him film a survivor ending instead.
He added: “I kept waiting for someone to go, ‘You know what? Could we just film an extra scene where we see Jyn and Cassian, they’re okay and they’re on another planet?’
“And it never came. No one ever gave us that note, so we got to do it.”
