Avengers 4 is currently undergoing the final reshoots in Atlanta. Various stars have been posting messages as they fly in and out celebrating their work on the epic saga.

However, Evans’ emotional Twitter post this evening makes it clear he has finished his time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This means no more of his Steve Rogers or Captain America in the upcoming Marvel Phase 4.

Fans have been getting equally emotional at the news and also their fears that he will die in the Infinity War sequel.

READ CHRIS EVANS’ FULL STATEMENT NEXT:

Evans wrote: “Officially wrapped on Avengers 4. It was an emotional day to say the least. Playing this role over the last 8 years has been an honour.

“To everyone in front of the camera, behind the camera, and in the audience, thank you for the memories! Eternally grateful.”

This absolutely sounds like the end. His contract has now officially expired and the actor had always indicated he would bow out gracefully at that time. Fans, of course, have responded with a torrent of tearful messages.

Two competing major theories offer equally emotional endings for the Captain – one where he dies on Vormir and one where he goes back in time to a certain lady waiting in the dancehall.

One theory centres on the Avengers trying to assemble all the Infinity Stones at key moments in the past. Iron Man wodul sacrifice Captain America, who represents the ideals he most loves, to obtain teh Soul Stone.

The other theory offers a more heartwarming tearjerker where the Time Stone or Time Vortex are used to send a weary Captain back to the 1940s to make his date with Peggy.

Fan comments on Evans’ post range from pointing out this seems a spoiler that Captain America is leaving to memes and gifs featuring his BFF Bucky Barnes and even Donna’s grandadd Wilfred from Doctor Who.

Some of the best include:

“Our Captain. Always our Captain.”

“When you were originally cast, I had deep doubts you were right for the part. I was wrong. Since then, you’ve not only risen to the character but exceeded expectations. Congratulations, Chris.”

“Thank you for bringing this character to life and proving you can make a true-blue hero come off as compelling and interesting.”

“Dude you cannot just go and tweet this, you cannot just leave?????”

“Thank you for being our Steve Rogers for all these years. Our star spangled man with a plan, the man who always stood up and never backed down, our Captain America, our Nomad.. Steve Rogers will always be a legend and we have you to thank for that. We will miss you!”

It is clear that Evans has become a huge fan favourite and his interpretation of the iconic role has won over hardcore fans and casual filmgoers.
