Earlier this month Avengers Endgame’s trailer was released and broke the record for the most watched trailer online in its first 24 hours. With over 289 million in a day, the teaser’ success was a stunning feat for Studios and a great privilege for the composer who scored the track used in the footage. So Say We All’s ominous opening and thrilling crescendos was a perfect fit for the post-Snap aftermath of Avengers Infinity War. Now the track’s composer Harry Lightfoot, who also worked on music for film trailers like Marry Poppins Returns, Fantastic Beasts 2 and Solo A Star Wars Story, has revealed exclusively to Express.co.uk how its inclusion in the Avengers Endgame Trailer came about.

Lightfoot said: “I’ve been composing music specifically aimed at film trailers for around three years. I managed to get in with one of Hollywood’s leading trailer music record labels, Audiomachine, through a mixture of luck and perseverance and have been writing and producing music with them for the last two years.

“The track that was used is called So Say We All and it is from Audiomachine’s album Volturnus which can be downloaded online via streaming services like Spotify and iTunes.

“Audiomachine had a track from the same album – not one of mine though! – used on the previous Avengers Infinity War campaign, so I guess Marvel liked it so much they wanted to stick with the same album and luckily for me they chose one of my tracks!

“All I know is I received an email telling me about it one week before it was released!”

But in terms of an early viewing of, or input into, the Avengers Endgame trailer – Lightfoot admits he had none.

He continued: “Zero input whatsoever. Quite frequently I get to work on trailers way in advance (for example the recent Mary Poppins Returns trailers I worked on for around 18 months!), but this one was just a nice last minute surprise!”

Even so, the composer was overwhelmed by the news that the trailer was the most watched online in its first day ever.

Lightfoot added: “It’s an amazing feeling and still quite surreal. I received over 500 Facebook friend requests from complete strangers over the subsequent week, which I thought was rather odd.

“It’s great to see so many people have downloaded the track too and seem to really like it which is always nice! I’ve even seen cover videos on Youtube, and tutorial videos on how to play it on piano! So yes it’s wonderful to hold that record, but I’m sure it will be instantly broken when they release trailer number 2!”

When asked if the track would feature in a future trailer for the fi;m or even in the Avengers Endgame movie itself, he replied: “I do believe that it has been requested on a few things, however, it’s unlikely to be used on something different within the next six months as Marvel will want to keep it exclusively until the film is released.

“Sadly as a trailer music composer, I have very little involvement in the actual filmmaking process so I purely deal with the trailer campaigns.

“But yes what a thrill it would be to have a track included in the actual film – something I’m fairly sure will sadly never happen! For now, however, I’m still getting requests through for other tracks in some wonderful trailer campaigns so watch this space!”

Avengers Endgame is released in cinemas on April 26, 2019.
