Avengers Infinity War: Ant-Man and the Wasp director teases post-Avengers 4 Marvel
Today Avengers Infinity War is released digitally in the US and Ant-Man and the Wasp hits UK cinemas this weekend.
But what does the future hold for the Marvel Cinematic Universe beyond next year’s Avengers 4?
Well Ant-Man and the Wasp director Reed teases a more diverse future for the franchise.
Speaking with Digital Spy, the filmmaker said: “I’m very hopeful that it’s going to develop and change in the way that it needs to, which is just to be more reflective of everybody.”
He continued: “People love two things in movies: they love to see themselves reflected on screen – whether it’s just the United States alone or globally, it’s obviously a very diverse world.
“That is what movies have always been able to do and continue to do.
“And now that movies operate on such a global scale – a Marvel movie opens, for the most part, all around the world at the same time – there’s such an opportunity to tell so many different stories, and also different perspectives, and I think that’s something you’re going to see a lot more of in the MCU.”
Speaking with Birth Movies Death, he said: “The main strategy is that in many ways I feel like we’re still in the midst of delivering on the promise from that last event!
“We’ve still got Captain Marvel and Avengers 4. Those are the big ones left to go, having just finished this.
“So it’s about completing the promise before you start promising a whole lot of other things.
“Obviously people are aware of Spider-Man: Far From Home, and Guardians 3, which James [Gunn] gets into prep on very soon.”
However Gunn was recently fired by Disney after controversial tweets he posted a decade ago.
Nevertheless the Guardians of the Galaxy cast have signed an open letter asking for his reinstatement as director of the third outing.
Avengers 4 is released in UK in UK cinemas on April 26, 2019.
