Avengers Infinity War: Directors hint deaths are PERMANENT despite sequel plans (SPOILERS)

It’s already confirmed that many of the Marvel favourites who perished will appear in some way in next year’s as-yet-untitled sequel, but the directors have hinted that this doesn’t necessarily mean they’re coming back to life.

Even those like Spider-Man and the Guardians of the Galaxy – who have their own new movies in the pipeline – could still never come back from the ash they dissolved into when Thanos collected the Infinity Stones.

“Here’s the thing, I think it’s important to remember anything is possible in the MCU [Marvel Cinematic Universe],” Anthony Russo told Huffington Post.

“Just because there’s a sequel on the books doesn’t mean… people become accustomed to time moving linearly in the MCU. That doesn’t necessarily have to be the case.

“There’s a lot of very inventive ways of where the story can go from here.”

Joe Russo pointed out that the previously-announced sequel could take place before Infinity War – like, for example, this summer’s Ant-Man and the Wasp, and next March’s Captain Marvel.

“There’s four years between Guardians 2 and Infinity War,” he said. “That’s a long time, and a lot of Guardians stories to tell.

“Again, as Anthony said, don’t expect everything to move forward in a linear fashion in the Marvel universe.”

Doctor Strange is also thought to be getting a sequel, which Benedict Cumberbatch spoke briefly about over the weekend.

“Just try to stop me. That’s all kind of lined up as far as I’m aware,” he told Deadline. “But who knows?

“I mean, you know, the problem is, how does he get out of where he’s at. But that’s the only thing. I’m bits of dust at the moment as far as I understand.”

Few characters actually survived the end of Infinity War – among them Iron Man, Black Widow, Hulk, Okoye, Captain America and Thor.

Nebula and Rocket will also start Avengers 4 in one piece.

Avengers: Infinity War is out now.
