Bohemian Rhapsody encountered a fair bit of roadblocks before making it to cinemas.

The movie survived through changes in cast, directors and release dates.

After eight years, Bohemian Rhapsody finally debuted in cinemas.

Unfortunately, the critical response was underwhelming.

How much has Bohemian Rhapsody made at the box office?

Bohemian Rhapsody’s domestic box office (North America) taking was a cool £38.5 million ($50 million).

The biopic played across 4,000 locations.

A helpful factor in Bohemian Rhapsody’s commercial performance was the lack of direct competition over the next month.

Bohemian Rhapsody expanded overseas to 64 markets.

From its global opening, the biopic made a Box Office Mojo estimated £55.8m ($72.5m).

This brings Bohemian Rhapsody’s total cumulation to just over £108m ($141m).

Of the overseas markets, the UK has lead the way, pulling in £20m ($26.5m) alone.

Bohemian Rhapsody had a production Budget of £40m ($52m) and has made a good return on its investment.

Despite the lukewarm reviews from critics, fans have been enjoying the biopic immensely.

Bohemian Rhapsody’s Rotten Tomatoes score is 60 percent, but its audience score is 95 percent.

In comparison to A Star Is Born, Bohemian Rhapsody had a better opening weekend.

The Freddie Mercury biopic made 7,091,949 more than the Lady Gaga movie.

However, Bohemian Rhapsody’s 12A rating means a wider audience will be able to see the movie.

Rami Malek plays Freddie Mercury, and critics have lauded his performance.

Owen Gleiberman of Variety wrote: “With a performance as commanding as Rami Malek’s at its centre, why isn’t Bohemian Rhapsody a better movie?”

For Digital Spy, Ian Sandwell wrote: “There’s no doubt that this is the Rami Malek show – and rightly so.

“You might take a while to get used to Malek with all of Mercury’s mannerisms, but he soon gets lost in the role and especially so when he’s on stage.

“It’s a fitting tribute to one of the all-time greatest performers and it’s hard to see anyone else doing it as much justice.”

Malek’s performance may go a fair way to explaining the commercial success of the movie.

Bohemian Rhapsody is now playing in cinemas.
