Boris Johnson and Michael Gove accused of 'RISKING BREXIT with plot to snatch leadership'
Brexiteers Boris Johnson, Michael Gove and Andrea Leadsom have put championing Britain’s EU departure on the back seat in favour of a nabbing the Conservative leadership plot, a source told The Sun on Sunday.
The silence from Camp Leave risks putting Remoaner MPs in the hot seat to dictate the Brexit agenda, with a crunch vote on the customs union looming.
The source raged: “The key Brexiteers in Cabinet have been too busy plotting their own futures.
“The result is we’ve missed a massive opportunity over the past week and have allowed those who want to stop Brexit to steal a march on the government.”
Mr Johnson, Mr Gove and Ms Leadsom joined forces and spearheaded the Leave campaign in preparation for the historic EU referendum.
Now though, it has been claimed a battle for Mrs May’s job is in the forefront of their minds – pushing crucial Brexit negotiations down their list of priorities.
The news follows a disastrous week rocked by the EU dictating divorce demands and predictions Theresa May could face a leadership battle after accusations she plans to row back on her promise to get Britain out of the bloc’s customs union.
The PM’s team told The Sunday Times she may be forced to keep Britain shackled to EU tariffs thus dooming Britain’s plans for prosperous world trade when the UK leaves the EU on March 29, 2019.
The same team had said at a March 20 meeting that Theresa May and her most senior aides “will not be crying into our beer” if parliament forces the Government’s hand – an act that will surely draw fury from Brexiteers up and down the country.
