But Minn-Erva is also a spy with similar powers to Captain Marvel herself.
In the comic books, Minn-Erva comes to Earth as Doctor Minerva.
Her mission is to find her Kree alien captain Mar-Vell.
Mar-Vell, played by Jude Law, is the alien whose DNA fused with Carol Danvers’ – which is what gave her the superpowers.
Within the Marvel comic history, Minn-Erva is a complicated character.
Like Ronan the Accuser, Minn-Erva is obsessed with the evolution of the Kree race.
The species appears to have stagnated, and Minn-Erva will do anything to see them continue to evolve.
Her desire to see the Kree on top leads her down some drastic paths to achieve her dream.
Even with the release of the trailer, one cannot be sure close to the source material the Captain Marvel movie will remain.
Prior to any official release from Marvel, Gemma Chan posted a photo of herself on set.

Speaking to Radio Times, Chan said she was nervous to take on the role of Minn-Erva.
