Avengers fans all over the world were left to speculate wildly about what might happen in the new Avengers 4 movie after a shocking post-credits ending that left fans’ jaws on the floor.

Now they have one less thing to wonder about as Brie Larson is the actress who has been confirmed to play the iconic and much-loved superhero Captain Marvel, with her own debut film being released later this year.

Brie Larson rose to fame in 2016 for her Oscar-winning performance in the independent movie Room.

Larson also won a BAFTA for the role of Joy “Ma” Newsome in Room, a woman held captive for seven years with her son.

But who is Brie Larson really?

Larson was born in Sacramento, California and started acting as a kid performing in sketches on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.

In the few years running up to Room, Larson appeared in Jonah Hill’s film adaptation of 1980s classic 21 Jump Street alongside Channing Tatum.

She then played Amy Schumer’s sister in Trainwreck.

What about off the screen?

During the 2017 Academy Awards, Larson refused to applaud Casey Affleck, to whom she was presenting the award for best actor, amid allegations of sexual harassment against him.

Her motionless stance was taken as a sign of protest and she later told Vanity Fair: “I think that whatever it was that I did on stage kind of spoke for itself.”

In May 2016, Larson’s representative confirmed her engagement to boyfriend Alex Greenwald, lead singer of Phantom Planet.

Not only is she an award winning actress, but Larson also released her first album Finally Out of P.E. in 2005 aimed at teenage audiences.

Will Avengers 4 be her first stint in an action film?

The actress, who is only 28 years old, also starred in Kong: Skull Island, released in 2017, as photojournalist and peace activist Mason Weaver.

To prepare for her role as Carol Danvers (aka Captain Marvel) Larson has spent the past nine months training at the gym and sharing sneak peaks of her physique on her Instagram.

She captioned one video: “Nine months of training really does some stuff to your body.”

“Getting stronger is a process I’m committed to showing up for everyday,” she wrote in another.

She also added some real life expertise to her acting tools, teaming up with real a life pilot to get closer to her character.

In another Instagram photo, Larson wrote: “Meet Brigadier General Jeannie Leavitt, 57th Wing Commander.”

“I had the pleasure of spending time with her and many other bad***, fascinating, and deeply hilarious pilots on a recent visit to Nellis Air Force Base in Nevada,” she added.

She thanked her for helping her “get closer to the core” of Captain Danvers, signing off with the mantra: “Higher further faster more!”
