Fantastic Beasts 2: Huge Harry Potter character ‘set to appear’ – but is it a PLOT HOLE?

The iconic character’s involvement was leaked when Fiona Glascott was credited on a cast list as playing the younger version of her.

She was of course played by Dame Maggie Smith in the original Harry Potter movies.

There is one problem, however: this, if all is as it seems, would break the Wizarding World canon.

That’s because – going by previous published works – McGonagall wasn’t even born at the time when The Crimes of Grindelwald is set.

The movie is set in 1927; eight years before McGonagall is thought to have been born.

And given that she seems to be in her 20s or 30s in the movie, there may be a small plot hole opening up.

Of course, all may not be as it seems – perhaps McGonagall appears in some kind of non-linear sequence, or the cast lists are erroneous and the character we’ll see will actually be her mother, or similar.

Whatever the case, it could be one of multiple shocks the blockbuster will deliver upon its release.

In fact, there are so many Easter eggs and twists in store that leading man Eddie Redmayne has issued a plea with fans to keep spoilers under their hats.

In a video posted to the official Fantastic Beasts social media accounts, he said: “Guys, I’m holding a badge which is a hashtag to protect those damn secrets written on it.

“And please, I’m imploring you, if you go and see Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, there are a few Easter Eggs and spoilers that are so intense.

“Please, please, please don’t ruin it for others. So #ProtectTheSecrets and see you soon.”

Fantastic Beasts 2 has seen some early reactions land online, and it does indeed seem like it’ll be shock reveals that keep people talking.

“I watched the new #FantasticBeasts film for the second time already. It’s seriously SO GOOD!!!!! Lots of unexpected moments,” said one person on Twitter.

However another ranted: “FANTASTIC BEASTS: THE CRIMES OF GRINDELWALD is an erratic and overstuffed mess.

“The most egregious ‘fan service’ since Gandalf battled The Nine in THE HOBBIT, this is Rowling’s sloppiest and probably worst wizarding story. Few sequences aside, this is one dead hippogriff.”

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald is out on November 16.
