According to reports, the actor – 36 – received a dividend of £900,000 in 2016; just over one million euros.

As claimed by Independent.ie, the information is revealed in the accounts for his commercial firm, Where’s The Danger Ltd.

The publication adds that the payout from the dividend is not disclosed in the accounting documents.

The Fifty Shades trilogy – Fifty Shades of Grey (2015), Fifty Shades Darker (2016) and Fifty Shades Freed (2017) – was a huge success, making $1.3 billion worldwide at the box office.

Given its relatively safe budget of about $150 million, that’s a huge profit for a series that received largely negative reviews and a string of Razzies.

Dornan’s career continues apace with the likes of Robin Hood, Untogether and A Private War.

Co-star Dakota Johnson, meanwhile, will next be seen in the horrifying remake of Suspiria.

But she too has opened her own production company, so she can produce the work she wants to be involved in.

“I’ve come to terms with the fact that the projects I want to work on don’t exist, so I’m going to have to create them for myself,” she told Elle.

“I feel incredibly grateful that I’m in a position to do that.”

She went on to admit that amidst her full slate of work, “there are many more experiences to have. It’s really good to still be learning the thing I love.”

Such projects include a new thriller with Armie Hammer, which is currently in production and has been fast-tracked towards release next spring.

Fifty Shades Freed came out in February and both Dornan and Johnson have denied that they could reprise their roles for another story.

All three movies are available on DVD, Blu-ray and digital download now.
