Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3: ‘Disney considering REHIRING James Gunn as director’

Last month the filmmaker behind the first two Guardians of the Galaxy movies was fired after decade old controversial joke tweets he wrote resurfaced.

Nevertheless Gunn had apologised and many Marvel fans and the Guardians cast have been rallying around him calling for him to be reinstated as director of the third movie.

And now Hollywood sources are claiming Disney may reverse his firing after a meeting with Gunn.

Variety reports: “Sources say there has been a growing feeling that Gunn could be reinstated, especially because Marvel and Disney have been unusually radio-silent on who could replace him since the firing.”

They continued: “Production is slated to start at the top of 2019, and following Gunn’s removal from the film, it was thought that Marvel and Disney would need to move quickly to replace him, since the replacement would likely have to do some work on the script.”

Meanwhile DisInsider editor-in-chief Skyler Shuler tweeted another rumour.

They wrote: “Hearing Disney will sit down with James Gunn. Reinstatement is possible. The Disney Company is taking its time with this situation.

Before his firing Gunn had already completed Guardians 3’s script and chosen the songs for Awesome Mix Vol 3.

It would make a lot of sense to rehire him, especially as he’s apologised and appears to have changed.

Meanwhile if Disney decide not to rehire him there are a couple of obvious options for his replacement.

One option is Taika Waititi who directed Thor Ragnarok, a Marvel film very similar in tone, style and setting to the Guardians films.

Then there’s the Russo Brothers who have been directing the Guardians actors in Avengers Infinity War and Avengers 4.

However hopefully it won’t come down to finding a replacement and Gunn will be given a second chance.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 is set for release in 2020.
