Guardians of the Galaxy auteur James Gunn confirmed Volume 3 of his Guardians story will “end this iteration” of the Guardians team.

Fans have made the not-so-far-fetched leap to conclude many of the team won’t survive.

James Gunn wrote on Twitter, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 will “end the trilogy.”

He further clarified on Twitter: “Well I mean Vol 3 will end this iteration of the Guardians and complete the story of the three films.”

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL 3: CAST, PLOT, RELEASE DATE

Fans who have seen Avengers Infinity War should already be used to the idea of a world without Star Lord.

Half of life on earth was wiped out by Thanos, the mad titan, whose snap turned them to dust.

The Guardians team pre-snap included Peter Quill (Chris Pratt), Mantis (Pom Klementieff), Drax (Dave Bautista), Groot (Vin Diesel), Nebula (Karen Gillan) and Rocket (voiced by Bradley Cooper).

The only Guardians to survive the snap were Nebula and Rocket.

AVENGERS 4 SET PHOTOS: WHAT DO THE SET PHOTOS FROM UNTITLED AVENGERS MOVIE MEAN?

Gamora didn’t die by the snap, but she was most depressingly killed by Thanos.

One half of the Avengers brotherly-directorial team, Anthony Russo told Huffington Post: “Here’s the thing, I think it’s important to remember anything is possible in the MCU.”

“Just because there’s a sequel on the books doesn’t mean… people become accustomed to time moving linearly in the MCU. That doesn’t necessarily have to be the case.

“There’s a lot of very inventive ways of where the story can go from here,” he added.

AVENGERS 4 LEAK: DID GWYNETH PALTROW LEAK A HUGE AVENGERS 4 SPOILER?

Star Lord actor Chris Pratt told MTV: “We don’t know yet, time-wise, where that lines up with Avengers 4.”

Given he met a ghastly fate in Infinity War, Pratt couldn’t confirm whether or not the Star Lord would be returning for Avengers 4.

“I’m hoping it’s not the last you’ll see me, but I can’t be sure,” he said.

During a 2017 interview with Complex, Gunn didn’t give Avengers fans much to go on, only saying: “I don’t think we should overstate things that it is an Avengers movie but the Guardians are a part of the cosmic universe, they’re a part of Thanos’ stories, so, they are in there, and they have, not the biggest, but, an integral part to that.”

Fans will have to wait till 2020 to find out who dies and who survives, if anyone does, in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3.
