Hereditary original cut was 3 HOURS LONG – ‘It forced the audience to really STEW’

The new horror is released this week and now the director has revealed its original cut was an hour longer.

Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Ari Aster admitted 30 scenes were left out for pacing reasons.

He said: “The movie tells you what it needs to be. This was the best version of the movie.

“But the part of you that mourns the missing scenes, tells you to announce that it was three-hours long.”

Audiences, it seems, are not so keen. CinemaScore, the highest-profile audience opinion poll to guarantee its respondents have seen the film, has revealed a disappointing D+ grade, on an A+ to F scale.

That’s incredibly low considering the hype around the movie, and is almost comparable to the similarly unconventional mother!, which earned a staggering F grade last year.

Already released in the US, Hereditary debuted at No 4 and took $13.5 million domestically.

The official synopsis reads: “When Ellen passes away, her daughter’s family begins to unravel cryptic and increasingly terrifying secrets about their ancestry.

“The more they discover, the more they find themselves trying to outrun the sinister fate they seem to have inherited.

Hereditary is released in UK cinemas on Friday.
