The Disney/Pixar team-up has had glowing feedback from critics, ahead of its US release later this week.

Although the praise is not unanimous, most critics are calling it a huge success – saying it’s “one of the best films of the year”.

Forbes wrote: “A funny, thoughtful, and thrilling adventure that artistically justifies itself without invalidating what came before.”

Us Weekly gave three stars out of four, saying: “Their adventures are timeless. And this one is worth the incredibly long wait.”

Uproxx beamed: “It feels like a direct extension of the first film.

“It feels like a movie that could have easily come out in 2006 as opposed to now, which is what makes Incredibles 2 so fun.”

The Hollywood Reporter said it’s a worthwhile watch, if not quite as flawless as the original movie.

“Incredibles 2 certainly proves worth the wait, even if it hits the target but not the bull’s eye in quite the way the first one did,” they declared.

Entertainment Weekly said in a B+ write-up: “Don’t let the dazzle fool you. Bird’s made the weirdest Pixar movie ever, revolutionary and retro, an anti-authoritarian ode to good parenting.”

Among the more critical reviews, Variety said: “What was organic, and even obsessive, in the first outing comes off as pat and elaborate formula here.”

Incredibles 2 reunites the cast of the original 2004 smash: Holly Hunter as Helen Parr, Craig T Nelson as Bob Parr, and Sarah Vowell and Huck Milner as their kids Violet and Dash.

Samuel L Jackson is also back as Lucius, aka Frozone, while director Brad Bird voices the legendary Edna Mode.

This film sees Mr Incredible, Bob, facing his biggest challenge yet – being a stay-at-home parent – while Helen’s Elastigirl tends to superhero duties.

Incredibles 2 is out in the UK on July 13.
