Inter Milan 3 – AC Milan 2: Mauro Icardi penalty clinches win for Luciano Spalletti's side

Mauro Icardi scored a 90th-minute winner from a controversial penalty to complete his hat-trick and give Inter a thrilling win in the Milan derby.

The Inter captain kept his cool to convert the spot-kick after Ricardo Rodriguez was judged to have fouled Danilo D’Ambrosio from a corner. 

The last-minute winner capped of a night of high drama as AC Milan twice pegged back their rivals and looked set for a point when Giacomo Bonaventura drew things level on the 80th minute.

The result sees Inter move two points behind Serie A leaders Napoli, who they meet next Saturday.

AC Milan, however, have lost their last three games and are 12 points behind their city rivals with pressure mounting on manager Vincenzo Montella.

Inter threatened from the off and hit the bar early on through Antonio Candreva before Icardi got his first of the night.

The Argentina international made it 1-0 on 28 minutes, latching onto a well-delivered ball from Candreva to fire past Gianluigi Donnarumma.

AC Milan got back on level terms thanks to former Liverpool player Suso who smashed home a stunning 25-heard effort on the hour mark.

However, just three minutes later the hosts had restored their lead as Icardi  got his second of the night from close range.

Milan never gave up hope and again levelled the game on 81 minutes through Bonaventura who looked to have secured a much-needed point for the visitors.

But it was not to be as referee Paolo Tagliavento made sure of late drama as he blew for a penalty in the 90th minute.

Milan full-back Rodriguez was judged to have fouled D’Ambrosio from a corner and Icardi stepped up to convert with ease.

The Inter captain left the field to adulation as he sealed his hat-trick and secured a memorable 3-2 derby win for Inter.
