The 45-year-old star is currently the bookies’ favourite to replace Daniel Craig as .

If cast the actor would be the first non-white actor in the role and probably the oldest.

Elba has been busy with his directorial debut, Yardie, which stars Aml Ameen.

Speaking with Channel 4 news, Aml has revealed just why Elba should play the Ian Fleming’s spy.

He said: “I really hope [Idris Elba] is Bond. I think he deserves it.

“I think the country love him, the country’s behind him.

“He was at the royal wedding for God’s sake.

“Just hurry up and make him Bond. James Bond.”

Earlier this month director Antoine Fuqua claimed James Bond producer Barbara Broccoli wants a non-white actor after the 50-year-old star bows out.

Antoine said: “Idris could do it if he was in shape. You need a guy with physically strong presence. Idris has that.”

Since then Elba has tweeted, “My name’s Elba, Idris Elba” and has seen his odds of replacing Craig top favourite Tom Hardy.

Craig is set to shoot Bond 25 from this December, so producers eyes will be firmly on his final film.

While Broccoli may have actors in mind, there’s no way auditions will take place until at least 2020.

And if EON productions play their cards right, they will want to have Bond 26, a reboot for the franchise, to release in 2022 – coinciding with the 60th anniversary of the franchise.

Daniel Craig’s James Bond 25 will be released in UK cinemas in October 2019.
