Lee Anderson's cheeky four-word message from the pub after Tory party suspension

Lee Anderson posted a cheeky four-word message from the pub after being suspended from the Tory party earlier this week. The MP for Ashfield visited a pub called the ‘Dog House’ on Saturday, where he enjoyed a pint of Birra Moretti, according to a social media post on his X account.

He wrote: “In the Dog House” in a tongue-in-cheek remark, before clarifying it was the name of the boozer he was drinking in, which although not made clear in the post is likely to be the Dog House pub in Kirkby in Ashfield, in Nottinghamshire – near to the area he represents in the House of Commons.

Anderson, a former deputy chairman of the Conservative Party, later added: “Random lady called Sue called in yesterday and left a fiver behind the bar to get me a pint. I don’t know you Sue but cheers.”

His remarks hint at the drama unfolding in the Conservative party yesterday, when Anderson lost the Tory whip for refusing to apologise after claiming Mayor of London Sadiq Khan had “given our capital city away to his mates”.

Top Tories including business minister Nus Ghani and Sir Sajid Javid joined leaders from across the political divide in criticising the controversial remarks, with Rishi Sunak later forced to take action.

Following Mr Anderson’s suspension from the party, Nigel Farage, speaking at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in the US, was quick to react within hours of the shocking news, telling Express.co.uk: “Lee Anderson should join Reform UK.”

Richard Tice – leader of the Reform Party which is surging in the polls – has previously flirted with the idea of Mr Anderson joining the party, given that the former miner has become a hugely popular figure in the Conservative Party with his straight-talking, no-nonsense approach to politics.

Despite him previously sticking by Rishi Sunak as leader, there are questions about whether this suspension could trigger a new revolt.

It comes as Oliver Dowden, the deputy PM, admitted that Lee Anderson would have kept the Tory whip if he had apologised for suggesting Sadiq Khan is controlled by “Islamists”, as he refused to be drawn on whether he views the comments as racist.

Rishi Sunak‘s right hand man said he didn’t believe Mr Anderson was “intending” to be Islamophobic when he made the widely criticised remarks that led to his suspension from the party, during interviews on Sunday morning’s broadcast media round.

Mr Anderson’s post has so far racked up more than 193,000 views on social media, as well as 6,700 ‘likes’ and 702 shares. Fans were quick to comment, with one even adding that he would buy the MP champagne.

One said: “I’ll buy you one too Lee!”

A second added: “I’d buy you a bottle of champagne for always speaking the truth. Well done.”

A third chimed in: “Enjoy! You have the support of more people than you might think. I’ll happily buy you a point if you’re in Lichfield at anytime.”
