Andy Lonergan, who has started the last four games after replacing Felix Wiedwald in the team, dropped a cross to allow Bees striker Neal Maupay the simplest of finishes in the first half.

Ezgjan Alioski levelled the scores after the break before Lonergan blundered again when was beaten at his far post by Yoann Barbet’s free kick in the 85th minute.

Brentford midfielder Ryan Woods put some gloss on the scoreline with an injury-time goal, to leave Christiansen fuming.

“I think everyone saw it [Lonergan’s blunder for Maupay’s goal],” Christiansen said. “There’s nothing we can do about it.

“We take a defeat from mistakes when I believe that the team deserved more.”

Christiansen dropped summer signing Wiedwald for Lonergan earlier this month, but Leeds’ head coach will look at the situation again.

When asked if Lonergan’s position would come into question, Christiansen replied: “This is something that we’ll speak about, but right now is not the moment to comment on these things.”

Leeds were miles off the pace in the first half, but Christiansen’s double substitution at half time sparked his side into life.

“We did a very good game in the second half,” he said. “We tried with the two changes to control the situation.

“We managed that, we got to 1-1, had to possession and opportunities to take the win but in this league you make three mistakes, three goals.”

Leeds have suffered seven defeats in nine games, and Christiansen is worried by their plight.

“There’s only one way to come out out of this situation – with hard work and having good results.”

Leeds have a two-week break until their next fixture due to World Cup qualifiers.

When asked if that could help turn their form around, Christiansen said: “That’s the questions always, but we will have time now to analyse the situation a little bit better.

“Of course, when you’re in a bad moment with bad results, all these situations will be bigger.”
