Mamma Mia 2 plot hole: Did YOU spot this mistake in Here We Go Again?

The sequel to the 2008 ABBA jukebox musical has made over $70 million worldwide after its first weekend, and demand for ABBA’s music has surged.

But while the prequel-and-sequel told the story of how Donna met her three lovers very neatly, there was one particularly hard-to-spot gaffe – as reported by Digital Spy.

In the first film, Amanda Seyfried’s Sophie spoke to the three men as they tried to leave the Greek island.

She sees Harry (Colin Firth) strumming a guitar, which she thinks is Donna’s – but he tells her that’s not the case.

He tells her that he bought Donna the guitar back when they first met, with it costing “£10 plus my Johnny Rotten T-shirt”.

Cut to 2018, and the prequel shows that Donna (played in flashbacks by Lily James) never got the guitar – because when younger Harry (Hugh Skinner) tries to catch up with her at the dock, he sees she’s already with Bill (Josh Dylan), so he turns away – guitar still on his back.

As far as we’re aware, he never sees her again until Sophie invites him to her wedding many years later, during the first movie.

So unless a deleted scene on the DVD bridges the gap, do we have a plot hole?

Otherwise fans have been very impressed with the film, which got an A- grade from CinemaScore and 79% from Rotten Tomatoes.

But while it easily conquered the UK box office with over £13 million in takings, its also-impressive US haul was beaten by Equalizer 2.

The Denzel Washington-starring sequel received lacklustre reviews but beat expectations to finish at No1 with just over $35 million in estimated takings – only around $1 million more than Mamma Mia 2.

As for the prospect of a Mamma Mia 3, Christine Baranski and Pierce Brosnan have hinted that they are game.

Also in the cast is Meryl Streep, Julie Walters, Cher, Bill Skarsgard, Dominic Cooper and Andy Garcia among others.
