Once her concert finished at the Manchester Arena, a suicide bomber killed 22 and left many more injured – with a child aged eight amongst the fatalities.

Ariana has since tweeted to say she is emotionally “broken” and “so sorry”, but fans have rushed to prove just how much of an inspiration she is.

A video posted on Twitter by the account @loyaltygrande back in April shows her speaking respectfully about her younger followers, and being full of love and admiration for them.

“I love them from the bottom of my heart, you know what I mean?” she told one interviewer.

She is seen holding fans in genuine, tight embraces in other shots, and told Jimmy Kimmel: “I care about them a lot.”

In another interview, she worries about the wellbeing of some admirers near her car when she says: “I’m actually having a heart attack because I’m worried somebody’s going to get hurt! I love you, be careful!”

Ariana has 45.9 million Twitter followers and has sold millions of records worldwide, with the audience of over 20,000 last night being made up of many young teens and children.

She tweeted: “broken. from the bottom of my heart, i am so so sorry. i don’t have words.”

One of her peers, Lorde, summed up the feeling amongst many singers when she posted to her own account:”every musician feels sick & responsible tonight—shows should be safe for you. truly a worst nightmare. sending love to manchester & ari.”

Grande was due to play London’s O2 Arena later this week but the dates are expected to be called off.
