The Burnley defender has been the subject of interest from Jose Mourinho in recent months as he looks to bolster his defensive line.

United have already agreed a deal to sign Benfica’s Victor Lindelof but the Red Devils are still said to be interested in signing Keane.

However, The Sun claim the 24-year-old isn’t convinced a move to Old Trafford would be the right step for his career.

Keane is hopeful of securing a place in Gareth Southgate’s England squad next year for the World Cup.

But with Lindelof, Chris Smalling, Phil Jones, Eric Bailly, Daley Blind and Marcos Rojo all set to play a part in Mourinho’s plans, Keane could be short of playing time.

Having made his first senior cap for the Three Lions this year, Keane knows he must be playing regular football if he is to force a way into Southgate’s squad.

United were tipped as favourites to sign Keane, who came through the academy at the Red Devils, before they signed Lindelof.

Liverpool, Tottenham and Everton were also chasing his signature but Keane was said to be open to the idea of a return to the club he left in 2015.

However, with Lindelof’s arrival and playing time uncertain, The Sun claim the centre-back will now consider offers to join the aforementioned trio.

Liverpool could intensify their pursuit of the Burnley star after they pulled out of the race to sign No1 target Virgil van Dijk from Southampton last week.
