Queen Letizia of Spain, 45, is the wife of King Felipe VI.

The royal set tongues wagging with rumours that she and her mother-in-law Queen Sofia, 79, are embroiled in a spat.

These claims seem to have been supported by a video that showed the two women in a tense stand off at an Easter Sunday service.

Tonight Letizia and her husband attended a reception at the Pardo Palace in Madrid with Portuguese President, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa.

President Rebelo de Sousa is on a three-day state visit to Spain, the first one of a Portuguese President since 2006.

Queen Letizia wore a navy skirt with feather details.

The mother-of-two added a blue co-ordinated top with the same feather details on the sleeves.

She added black patent shoes with an eye-wateringly high heel and a black clutch bag.

Sultry black eyeliner, peach blusher and dangling gold earrings completed the look.

The video of Queen Letizia and Queen Sofia caused shock when it went viral.

Distant royal relative Princess Marie-Chantal of Greece even weighed in on the spat on Twitter.

After the video, taken at church on Easter Sunday, circulated online, Princess Marie-Chantal tweeted: “This makes me feel so angry!”

She later wrote: “No grandmother deserves that type of treatment! Wow, she’s [Queen Letizia] shown her true colours.”

She also posted an image of her own extended family on the social media website, and wrote: “Happy grandparents! Family is what it’s all about.”

Queen Letizia wore a tiara that belongs to Queen Sofia at a state dinner yesterday.

She proudly wore her mother-in-law’s diamond tiara and she stood by her husband’s side.

The tiara, owned by King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia, was created in the 1920s.

It was made by Cartier, and is a truly beautiful piece with an elegant triangular shape.

The tiara still belongs to Queen Sofia. Is Letizia wearing the piece tonight a sign of reconciliation? Or is it a snub to the mother-in-law?

Letizia added stunning earrings to the look.
