Sir Michael Caine: ‘I asked for the C-word to be CUT from my new movie King of Thieves’
The 85-year-old star plays Brian Reader in King of Thieves, the latest adaptation of the real-life Hatton Garden jewellery heist.
And it’s not surprisingly that in portraying a group of old robbers that there’s going to be a few curse words flying around.
However when it came to the C-word, it was too much for Caine, who revealed he asked for it to be cut after saying the expletive on film.
Speaking with The Sun, he said: “That was the first time I’ve used the C-word in a film.”
Caine continued: “I tried to get it cut. I’d never use it myself.
“I didn’t feel comfortable with it. I never swear in films.
“If you tread on my foot in real life, I will swear.
“I am the son of a Billingsgate fish porter, so I grow up hearing it. But I would never use the word.”
King of Thieves isn’t the only adaptation of the 2015 Hatton Garden Heist.
Last year Matthew Goode and Larry Lamb starred in The Hatton Garden Job, while in 2016 a low-budget film called Hatton Garden: The Heist was released.
There’s also a four-part ITV mini-series, starring Timothy Spall, called Hatton Garden which is still yet to air after being delayed a year.
King of Thieves is released in UK cinemas on Friday September 14.
