Speaking with , he said: “That was the first time I’ve used the C-word in a film.”

Caine continued: “I tried to get it cut. I’d never use it myself.

“I didn’t feel comfortable with it. I never swear in films.

“If you tread on my foot in real life, I will swear.

“I am the son of a Billingsgate fish porter, so I grow up hearing it. But I would never use the word.”

King of Thieves isn’t the only adaptation of the 2015 Hatton Garden Heist.

Last year Matthew Goode and Larry Lamb starred in The Hatton Garden Job, while in 2016 a low-budget film called Hatton Garden: The Heist was released.

King of Thieves is released in UK cinemas on Friday September 14.
