Spawn movie cast: Is Jamie Foxx starring in Spawn?

Spawn is a character made famous in the 1990’s Image Comics comic books by Todd McFarlane, who is most widely known for his work on The Amazing Spider-Man.

The character will finally make it to the big screens next year, as the comic book creation is set to be turned into a major blockbuster to rival the likes of Marvel and DC Comics.

Todd McFarlane was the artist to draw the first full appearances of the supervillain Venom, who has his own movie coming out this year starring Tom Hardy.

McFarlane’s Spawn is based on a high-school era comic he drew, which he updated for Image Comics in the 1990s.

Now Spawn is set to head to the big leagues, with a feature film slated for 2019.

Is Jamie Foxx starring in Spawn?

Yes, Jamie Foxx will be starring in the upcoming film and so far he is the only confirmed cast member.

Unsurprisingly, Jamie Foxx is set to play the main antihero, Al Simmons, aka Spawn.

IMDB reports the film will be an R-Rated supernatural horror movie.

It will join Deadpool as a decidedly not family friendly superhero, or antihero, movie.

Jason Blum, chief of Blumhouse who are producing the Spawn, said they were thrilled to count Foxx as its star.

He said: “Jamie Foxx is an incredible actor and a huge fan of the Spawn Universe that Todd McFarlane created.

“With the depth of talent Jamie can commit to the role and Todd at the helm bringing the world of Spawn to life, we could not be more excited for this film.”

Jamie Foxx is equally thrilled to star in Spawn and in fact had brought the project up to McFarlane over five years ago.

Foxx said: “I’m humbled and ready to transform and to top things off the young Jason Blum is lending his brilliance to the project.”

Little else is known about Spawn, and more cast details have yet to be confirmed.

The movie will be shocking, McFarlane has said, but anticipation is already building for the comic-based movie.

Spawn will be in cinemas sometime in 2019.
