Star Wars 9 leak: Rey's FATHER revealed? And it's NOT who you think

Kylo Ren’s ‘revelation’ that Rey’s parents were nothing more that drunk lowlives chasing their next round of shots was not exactly what fans were expecting.

The reactions, it is safe to say, varied dramatically.

Some were delighted by the bold subversion of expectations and Star Wars mythology. Others were horrified, seeing it as a betrayal and the final nail in the coffin of what has become the most divisive film in the Star Wars (and possibly any) franchise. And so a backlash was born.

There is a also a strong argument that Kylo was either lying or had been mislead himself, and Rey’s parents will be properly revealed in Episode 9.

Now that filming on the final episode has begun, numerous reports, rumours and leaks have been emerging.

It is, of course, essential to take any of these with a pinch of salt. Even if they are verified they may not make it into the final cut.

However, there have been claims that Mark Hamill will shoot two sceens at Pinewood with Daisy Ridley’s Rey and Adam Driver’s Kylo.

What is even more tantalising is that the latest leaked secen descriptions may not even point to Luke at Rey’s long-lost father or grandfather.

The leak describes concept art for new scenes: “One of which could tell us who Rey’s father is? Specifically a young Rey on Jakku at night, next to a fire. In front of her is a man, an older man with a beige hood over his head, holding Rey’s hands and eventually hugging her. The next (image) goes over the man without his hood. He has long brown hair tied in a pony tail that end up the upper back. Clean shaven and waving at Rey before hoping on his speeder and leaving Rey.”

Could he be a Jedi? The long hair tied in a ponytail and the beige robes immediately call to mind Qi-Gon Jinn, although he is a long-shot. Both he and Obi-Wan also had beards.

There have already been reports that a young girl was cast for Episode 9 and she will be acting with some of the new characters been introduced.

This would certainly imply early scenes of Rey’s childhood. The moment when she was abandoned on Jakku, for example.

This new scene leak doesn’t sound that heart-wrenchingly dramatic, unless the young Rey didn’t know at the time it was the last time she would see her father.

Speculation also brings up the intriguing idea that her father is a Jedi but not a famous iconic character like Luke, Qui-Gonn or Obi-Wan. Older theories linked her parents to the students at Luke’s temple, but the timeline would not fit with Rey and Kylo-Ren’s ages in Episodes 7 and 8.

Even though Hamill himself shaved off his beard before filming Episode 9, surely Luke is just too obvious as Rey’s father?

A new theory suggests that perhaps JJ Abrams is continuing his pledge to reference as much prequel and original trilogy material as possible. What if Rey’s father or parents were Jedi forced into hiding by Emperor Palpatine’s Order 66?

Her father could have been a child at the time and never received formal training. This could explain Rey’s inherent powers and her fascination with the old legends of heroes like Luke and Han Solo, but also her total lack of any direct knowledge of the Jedi.
