Star Wars bosses ban THIS Kylo Ren moment from Wreck-It-Ralph 2 – ‘It’s loving satire’

Lucasfilm are of course now under the Disney umbrella, meaning that the characters from a galaxy far, far away can be used in the new animation.

It’s already out in the open that a load of Disney princesses will make cameos; a moment that happens when Vanellope (Sarah Silverman) is chased by a group of stormtroopers.

But a Kylo Ren gag ended up on the cutting room floor.

Co-director Rich Moore told IGN: “At one point we had a joke about Kylo Ren being kind of a spoiled child.

“We went to Lucasfilm and said, ‘here’s what we’re doing’.

“And they said, ‘well, we’d prefer that you don’t show him as a spoiled child. You know, he is our villain, and we’d prefer you don’t do that’.

“So we were respectful of that.”

Moore stressed that none of the jokes that refer to other Disney properties are anything other than respectful.

“[They] honour who these characters are,” he explained.

“It’s really loving satire that we’re doing.”

Adam Driver plays Kylo Ren in the Star Wars franchise; and while he was perceived by fans as something of an emotional, angst-ridden goth-like figure after Episode 7: The Force Awakens, he transitioned very firmly to outright evil in The Last Jedi.

That movie ended with him resisting Rey’s (Daisy Ridley) efforts to pull him back from the Dark Side, even though he had killed his master, Supreme Leader Snoke (Andy Serkis).

Star Wars 9 is currently in production, and will bring Kylo’s arc to an end.

Wreck-It Ralph 2, meanwhile, is expected in cinemas next month.

Its predecessor, released in 2012, was a huge success: it grossed $471.2 million at the box office, and was well received by critics – who gave it 87% feedback, according to Rotten Tomatoes.
