Luke Skywalker may be the best-known name in all the galaxy.

The character has become ubiquitous not only in the realm of sci-fi but in nearly every house worldwide, as Star Wars continues its stratospheric success.

Rian Johnson’s take on the Skywalker saga with The Last Jedi has become a source of consternation amongst the more die-hard Star Wars fans.

And, as such, each tidbit of news relating to the upcoming Episode 9 movie is being dissected with a fine-toothed comb.

What are Luke Skywalker’s two scenes in Episode IX?

STAR WARS EPISODE 9: IS STAR WARS EPISODE 9 THE LAST ONE?

According to Star Wars commentator Mike Zeroh, whose YouTube channel has 125,344 subscribers, the big three cast members will be filming together in September across three days.

He said: “The set will have many green screens, which could tell us this is how they will make Mark Hamill into Force Ghost.

He went on to describe how two sets are currently being built for Hamill’s appearances alongside Star Wars’ new stars Daisy Ridley (who plays Rey) and Adam Driver (Klyo Ren/Ben Solo).

Zeroh previously reported on leaked concept art, saying: “One image has a wide shot on an unknown planet at dusk with a unique ship design the surface and a young male walking off a ramp.

STAR WARS EPISODE 9 CAST: WHO IS NAOMI ACKIE? WHO WILL SHE PLAY?

“It appears to be Ben Solo. Two figures behind him on the ship are Leia and next to her is Han, however, Han’s face is obscure. He sports the jacket from The Force Awakens.”

Fans were suspicious about whether Mark Hamill would appear in Episode 9 at all, given his demise at the end of The Last Jedi.

However, with the announcement of the Episode 9 cast, Hamill’s appearance was confirmed.

Hamill himself has been cagey on the topic, having been quoted as saying the new chapter of Episode 9 gave the potential for Luke to cross into a new realm – presumably the Force.

“No one’s ever really gone. Again, I’m not writing the script, so I don’t know.” Hamill added.

STAR WARS SOLO DELETED SCENES: WILL THEY BE ON THE DVD AND BLU-RAY?

Fans seemed divided on how Hamill will appear, whether as a Force ghost or in a flashback scene.

While his appearance as a Force ghost may give fans a better sense of closure, a flashback scene could allow for further exposition.

Lucasfilm is an expert at teasing, delaying, and stoking fan-fueled theories; after all, they kept one of the biggest cinema reveal-secrets ever under wraps.

But then again, when Luke’s father was revealed way back in 1980 – there was no internet, no Twitter rife with theories, no sub-Reddits dedicated to spoiling plots.

Whether Luke’s path to return in Star Wars Episode 9 is revealed ahead of time is almost unimportant now, as fans are undeniably excited and relieved to hear he will return at all.

Star Wars Episode IX is in cinemas Thursday, December 19, 2019.
