Star Wars Episode 9: MORE Leia news ‘confirmed’ as Carrie Fisher’s brother lets THIS slip
It was announced late last month that unused footage the late Fisher recorded for 2015’s The Force Awakens would be used to insert Leia into the upcoming saga finale, but now her brother Todd has allegedly given another exciting nugget of info.
In an appearance on The Resistance Broadcast, ABC News’ Clayton Sandell revealed details of a conversation he had with Todd.
Those included the fact that footage from The Last Jedi will also be pulled up.
Via StarWarsNewsNet, he recalled: “I talked to Todd Fisher today about all of this and he has been talking with JJ Abrams about it.
“I asked him, because the press release only said The Force Awakens so I asked about The Last Jedi, and they are also using unused footage from The Last Jedi.
“I asked him how many minutes of footage they had from it and he said ‘I can’t tell you that!’”
Sandell went on: “He said there were big surprises coming – big surprises with this movie, this performance, and the unused footage – and said – this one is really for the fans.
“But they apparently have a number of unused minutes from both The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi. Todd and the whole family are very excited and wanted it to happen.”
Interestingly, SWNN also resurfaces quotes from Rian Johnson saying most of Fisher’s footage for The Last Jedi did end up in that movie, so perhaps that’s why only The Force Awakens was referenced in the announcement.
“I had a conversation with J.J. [Abrams], [and said] you can take a look at anything we didn’t use,” he told Inverse.
“But I don’t think there’s anything there. The truth is, there isn’t a ton of her that we shot that we didn’t use in this movie.”
In a statement, Abrams announced the use of archive footage by saying: “We desperately loved Carrie Fisher. Finding a truly satisfying conclusion to the Skywalker saga without her eluded us.
“We were never going to recast, or use a CG character. With the support and blessing from her daughter, Billie, we have found a way to honour Carrie’s legacy and role as Leia in Episode IX by using unseen footage we shot together in Episode VII.”
Star Wars: Episode IX is out in December 2019.
