Star Wars Episode 9 spoiler: How Episode IX will be DIFFERENT from 7 and 8

Oscar Isaac has had a busy year.

Busy ten years, in fact, and the actor is looking to 2019 for a well-deserved break.

The Star Wars actor has the leading role in Operation Finale (released by Netflix in the UK) as well as a smaller role in the Van Gogh movie At Eternity’s Gate.

Now back on set as Star Wars’ resident flyboy Poe Dameron, Isaac revealed the subtle way Episode 9 will differ from the previous two films.

“The way they’ve been shooting it right now is looser than it’s been for the last two times,” he told Indie Wire.

“It does feel like a relief to get on set and feel like, ‘Oh, we can try things.’

“It’s a testament to JJ coming back and feeling confident.”

Isaac also joked the improvisatory quality of the production was like “Cassavetes in space.”

He added: “Often, you do feel like you’ve got to find your way to make something more alive, but this time, it’s been the opposite,” he said.

“There’s no need to smuggle anything in there.”

As for the fan reaction, which has been divisive, to say the least, Isaac counted his blessings he did not have to bear the brunt of it.

“Luckily, since I’m not directing it, producing it, or distributing it, I don’t have to worry so much about fan expectations,” he said.

One of the fan reactions taken issue with was Poe Dameron’s own character arc (or lack thereof, according to some fans).

Isaac’s latest movie Life Itself is making its way through the London Film Festival.

The movie has been getting less than favourable reviews but Isaac is a strong actor whose roles speak for themselves – including Poe.

The loose filming style of Episode 9 could go a long way to explaining the filming delays.

Last week, it was reported a particular set in Pinewood Studios will be needed for two months longer than planned.

Additionally, Adam Driver (who plays Kylo Ren) had to postpone a talk at Cambridge University due to scheduling conflicts.

The title of the final chapter of the story is also yet to be announced.

In addition to confirmed returning stars such as Daisy Ridley, Mark Hamill, John Boyega and Kelly Marie Tran will be newcomers such as Naomi Acke, Richard E Grand, Keri Russell and Dominic Monaghan.

Star Wars 9 is out December 19, 2019.
