Star Wars spoilers: Is THIS the proof Rey and Kylo Ren have a special connection?

Star Wars fans are nothing if not dogged in their pursuit of factoids, parallels, and hidden meanings.

One fan took to Reddit to share a gif that seemed to insinuate Rey and Kylo Ren’s connection went beyond the Force-connection Snoke forged between them.

Is THIS the proof Rey and Kylo Ren have a special connection?

Reddit user egoshoppe posted a gif which spliced together two fight scenes.

One was Rey training on the Island Ahch-To, and one of Kylo Ren in his fight against Luke in the final moments of The Last Jedi.

The gif implies Rey and Kylo Ren’s fighting styles are, if not identical, at least very similar.

Some fans are using this as proof Kylo Ren and Rey are more connected than people assumed.

A popular theory states Rey is Han Solo’s illegitimate child, making her and Kylo Ren half-siblings.

Of course, Rian Johnson might take issue with this theory, having written unequivocally into The Last Jedi that Rey’s parents are nobodies.

However, fans still cling to the hope that this assertion is wrong.

After all, Kylo Ren was the one to deliver the blow to Rey, and everyone knows his motivations are far from altruistic.

Other Star Wars fans have jumped to a far more realistic conclusion about the similarities in Kylo and Rey’s fighting styles.

They were both trained by Luke.

Perhaps the most logical reaction to the gif, some more cynical fans have taken this a step further, insisting the similarities have nothing to do with anything in the Star Wars universe, simply a lazy choreographer.

They allege the choreographer who planned the two fight scenes simply taught the actors the same moves, leading to two very similar moments in The Last Jedi.

Whether this is a hint at something far deeper or simply a coincidence down to Luke’s training methods, Star Wars fans are great at taking minute details and spinning wild yarns.

This theory of Kylo Ren and Rey’s unexplored and deeper connection is probably the least divisive of all theories related to The Last Jedi, a movie which has polarised fans and critics alike.

All should hopefully be revealed when J.J. Abrams takes over the director’s seat for the final of the contemporary trilogy for Episode IX.

Star Wars Episode IX is scheduled for release in cinemas December 20, 2019
