Venom may not be known to many, but he’s certainly caused quite a stir.

The Sony adaptation of the dark anti-hero, or villain if you’re a Spider-Man fan, has been surrounded by anticipation.

With Tom Hardy, a venerated if a bit quirky actor, in the eponymous role, fans had high hopes.

A day remains until its UK release on October 3, but fans are already trying to decipher if there could be more Venom in the future.

Will there be another Venom movie?

The only answer available as of yet is: maybe.

With voices of the cast like Tom Hardy himself calling for more time to explore the character, it seems likely there could be another film.

“I had a lot of time improvising and a lot of freedom to play with Venom,” Hardy told IGN at the premiere.

“There’s probably seven hours of me playing around with the character.

VENOM FILM CAST: IS WOODY HARRELSON IN VENOM? WHO DOES HE PLAY?

“There’s a lot of fun you can have with this project and character,” he added.

Hardy previously told Total Film: “We’ve signed up for three of them.

“So, it’s very much an open case. We’ll see what people’s responses are to it.”

Woody Harrelson signed on to the first movie based on the presumption there would be a sequel, in which his character would star.

VENOM AGE RATING: DOES VENOM HAVE AN AGE RATING?

Harrelson told Collider: “I’m in a little fraction of this movie, but I’ll be in the next one, you know?”

Having worked with Venom director Ruben Fleischer previously on Zombieland, Harrelson took a roll of the dice approach with the Venom movie.

Whether this gamble pays off remains to be seen.

Venom is currently getting the short end of the stick from critics, but fan reception could change the tide.

VENOM MOVIE: VENOM RELEASE DATE, CAST, PLOT, AND TRAILER

Early social media reactions from those who attended early screenings have proven mixed, but this may not impact a potential sequel if the fan desire is strong enough.

Plenty of superhero movies have gone on to bigger and better sequels.

Thor: Ragnarok outshined its predecessor, as did Captain America: Winter Soldier.

Given the existence of an end credit scene (with no details divulged yet) it may be safe to be cautiously optimistic.

Venom is out in UK cinemas on October 3, 2018.
