Although Joe and Anthony Russo gave the interview in question several months ago – back around the time that Avengers: Infinity War was released – it has resurfaced now thanks to being shared on the popular Marvel Studios area of Reddit – which has half a million subscribers.

Joe Russo is quoted as saying that the storylines in the comics won’t actually give fans much indication of what lies ahead.

“I don’t think there are any comics that correlate to it,” he said, according to Comicbook.com.

“I think we’re in pretty fresh territory with Avengers 4.”

He added: “If anything, I think it’s interesting after to go back and look at some of the Marvel films and view them through a different lens.

“But I can’t think of any comics in particular that would have value.

“Our job as we said a million times is to tell the story of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, not to do direct adaptations of the comics because we’re comic book fans.

“I have no interest as a director in telling a story that’s already been told or in seeing one that’s already been told. If I know all the events story as they’re going to happen then what’s the point of going to the film?

“We want to keep surprising audiences and continue the story that started with Iron Man One a decade ago.”

Avengers 4 has recently been in reshoots in the USA, ahead of its release next year.

Mark Ruffalo, who plays Hulk and Bruce Banner, recently hinted that some of the scenes they’re filming are to help them decide what the ending will actually be.

“We’re doing reshoots starting in September, and then we’ll go back into the international tour, we’ll go on tour,” he told The Marvelists podcast over the summer.

“Then you guys will get the second instalment. Which we don’t even know what it’s gonna be yet.”

He continued: “We’re not just doing reshoots.

“We’re going to finish the movie, which we really didn’t get to finish totally when we left it last year.

“I don’t even know that they really know exactly if it is happening while we’re there.

“It’s pretty amazing. And we’ll shoot some stuff and a few days later come back and reshoot it ’cause we wanna take it in another direction.”

Avengers 4 will be released in UK cinemas on April 26, 2019.
