WARNING MAJOR SPOILERS FOR AVENGERS INFINITY WAR AHEAD

Well as promised there were some big ol’ deaths in the epic which released today.

With , mainly due to Thanos successfully gathering all the Infinity Stones and killing half the universe, fans have been left in shock.

But why did certain superheroes like Iron Man and Captain America survive the random 50/50 genocide and others like Doctor Strange and Black Panther die at Avengers Infinity War’s conclusion?

We’re pretty sure we know the answer why, so hear us out.

After Thanos clicked his fingers the characters who turned to ash were the following: Bucky, Scarlet Witch, Star-Lord, Drax, Mantis, Groot, Falcon, Black Panther, Doctor Strange, Spider-Man, Maria Hill and Nick Fury.

While the major players who survived were: Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, Bruce Banner, Black Widow, War Machine, Rocket, Nebula, Okoye and M’Baku.

So why some and not the others? Well think about. Those still alive are mainly the original Avengers line-up bar Hawkeye, who was mysteriously missing from Avengers Infinity War.

While those who died are mainly those who are set to lead Marvel Phase 4 after Avengers 4.

Marvel boss Kevin Feige has already teased Black Panther 2, Doctor Strange 2 and Spider-Man Homecoming 2.

And with contracts ending for the likes of Robert Downey Jr, Chris Evans and Chris Hemsworth, they’ll no longer be the newbies.

So really it’s a rather fitting for the Avengers who are presumably bowing out (alive or dead) after Avengers 4, to have to work out how to save the others.

Essentially it’s up to original Avengers to save the MCU, the future of the franchise is literally in their hands.

And with Iron Man and Captain America still not talking to each other since Civil War, the two superheroes are going to have to put aside their differences for the sake of the universe and, well, Marvel Phase 4.

This also explains why Feige refuses to announce future movies beyond Avengers 4 – other than Spider-Man’s sequel and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 – because right now all those characters are dead and buried.

Fans are going to have to be patient to find out how Thanos’ wrongs are righted. A year is a long time.

Avengers 4 will be released in UK cinemas on April 26, 2018.
