With Avengers: Infinity War in cinemas now (the US release follows tomorrow), fans’ attentions will be turning to future Marvel movies still to come.

Ant-Man and the Wasp returns us to the MCU in July, after which we return to that particular Universe to join Brie Larson’s Carol Danvers.

So ahead of our first proper introduction to the character, below is everything we know so far.

RELEASE DATE

All being well, Captain Marvel will find its way to cinemas on March 8, 2019.

That’s the release date for the UK and the USA, as well as Sweden. Some European territories will get it slightly earlier: France and the Netherlands currently list March 6, while Argentina, Germany, Russia, Slovakia and the Ukraine will follow on March 7.

CAST

Larson will play the titular role; ostensibly the most powerful superhero in the entire MCU. She will then appear in Avengers 4.

She’ll be joined by Lee Pace’s Ronan the Accuser and Samuel L Jackson’s Nick Fury – with Ben Mendelsohn, Jude Law, Gemma Chan, Clark Gregg and Djimon Hounsou also aboard.

Rumours have suggested that some Guardians of the Galaxy will show up, but this is unconfirmed.

TRAILER

There is currently no Captain Marvel trailer or teaser. The movie is still being filmed, so don’t expect one in the very near future.

PLOT

Marvel’s official synopsis reads: “Based on the Marvel comic character first appearing in 1968, the story follows Carol Danvers as she becomes one of the universe’s most powerful heroes when Earth is caught in the middle of a galactic war between two alien races.

“Set in the 1990s, Captain Marvel is an all-new adventure from a previously unseen period in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.”

POWERS

Carol’s powers are huge, and it’s not known what exactly we’ll see her do in the movie.

But if the film is faithful to the comics, we’ll see her in possession of superhuman strength, as well as awesome endurance, stamina, physical durability and the ability to fly at six times the speed of sound.

If her sixth sense is in check, she should be able to discharge huge blasts of radiant energy from her fingertips, and absorb energy such as electricity.

What’s more, she’s also a tip-top pilot and combatant. So it’s safe to say that she will be quite the formidable character.

Captain Marvel is out in 2019.
