Halloween easter eggs: Did you spot THESE hidden easter eggs for the 1978 original?

The new Halloween movie has done exceptionally well at the box office.

Making up for the intervening sequels, the 2018 movie sees Jamie Lee Curtis return as Laurie Strode.

The final showdown with Michael Myers has proven successful with fans and critics alike.

But just because the movie ignores the other sequels, doesn’t mean it forgets them entirely.

Did you spot these easter eggs?

Opening credits

The opening credits sequence was the perfect homage to the original (and 1981 sequel) movie.

The credits in the 1879 movie used a glowing orange pumpkin on a black background, which slowly rots as the credits rolled.

For the new movie, the same credits were used, though the pumpkin reversed its decomposition.

The pumpkin started rotten and became healthy by the end of the credits.

The sequels

Another way in which the new Halloween movie references the original films is by directly contradicting them in dialogue.

During the new movie, Laurie’s granddaughter is asked, “Wasn’t it her brother who murdered all those babysitters?”

Her reply: “No. It was not her brother. That’s something that people made up.”

Loomis, the psychiatrist.

The actor who played the original Sam Loomis, Donald Pleasance passed away in 1995.

The 2018 Halloween movie confirms this with audiences.

The film also introduces audiences to a new psychiatrist called Dr Ranbir Sartain (played by Haluk Bilginer).

Laurie calls him “the new Loomis,” paying homage to the original actor and script.

Laurie’s song

In the original movie, Laurie is seen walking down a street singing to herself.

At the time, budget constraints meant they couldn’t use an existing song, so they made one up.

Together, Curtis and the 1978 original director John Carpenter created something they thought sounded like a pop song.

For the 2018 movie, director David Gordon Green took the lyrics Curtis and John Carpenter created and turned them into a real song.

The lyrics go: But I wish I had you all alone / Just the two of us / So close to you.”

Green told Digital Spy: “We had a band take that melody and make a big song that’s playing on the radio.”

Michael’s car-jacking

Michael Myers made his way back to Haddonfield in the first movie via a car he stole.

In the 2018 movie, Myers repeats the same trick – murder – to get a car.

The ghost sheet scene.

One of the most memorable moments from 1978’s Halloween is the ghost sheet scene.

In the original, Michael kills the Bob (played by John Michael Graham).

He covers himself up in a white sheet so he can trick Lynda (played by P J Soles) into believing he’s Bob so he can get the upper hand.

In the 2018 version, Michael covers up Vicky’s (played by Virginia Gardner) body with a very similar-looking sheet as a quick nod to the original film.

Who’s hiding in the closet?

The 2018 movie made use of the hide in the closet trick, though with roles reversed.

Halloween 2018 finds Michael hiding in a closet, with Laurie unaware which one it is.

He attacks and Laurie falls out of the bedroom window.

When he peers out of the window, Laurie has vanished.

HALLOWEEN CAST: WHO PLAYS MICHAEL MYERS? WHO ELSE STARS IN THE CAST?

All of this is a direct inverse of the original scene, in which Laurie hid in the closet, struck Michael, and Michael fell out of the window.

In the 1978 movie, Laurie was the one to look out of the window only to discover Michael has vanished.

Keen-eyed fans may have spotted more than this, including the truck with the “resurrection church” bumper sticker (an homage to the eighth movie).

There are probably more, and so to see them head to cinemas.

Halloween is out in cinemas now.
