Bohemian Rhapsody: Queen and Freddie Mercury set for Christmas No 1 for a THIRD time
Last night Bohemian Rhapsody had its world premiere at Wembley Arena in London.
And with the Freddie Mercury biopic’s release today, the 1975 single of the same name is looking to be Christmas No 1 this year.
According to Ladbrokes the song has a 5-1 chance of coming top this December 25.
However, Queen are equally rivaled by Ed Sheeran, who won the prize last year.
Meanwhile, Shan Ako is at 8-1, ABBA at 10/1 and Misunderstood at 10/1.
If Bohemian Rhapsody is UK No 1 on Christmas Day it will be the third time the song has achieved the feat.
As it stands the single is the only song by the same artist to be UK Christmas No 1 twice.
When first released in 1975 Bohemian Rhapsody remained top of the UK Singles Chart for nine weeks, selling over a million copies by the end of January the next year.
The song became No 1 again in late 1991 for a total of five weeks following Mercury’s death.
Also, Bohemian Rhapsody is the third best-selling single in the UK ever, have sold over 2.5 million copies.
Ahead with 3.8 million is Band Aid’s Do They Know It’s Christmas.
While the No 1 spot is held by Elton John’s Something About the Way You Look Tonight/Candle in the Wind, which was a tribute to Princess Diana following her death in 1997.
