Here we go again, Mamma Mia is back in cinemas with all the Abba tunes you didn’t know you knew the words to.

The sequel to the 2008 movie picks up ten years after the first Mamma Mia.

The first Mamma Mia! received mixed reviews from critics, but massive praise from audiences.

The plot of the 2008 Mamma Mia followed Donna (Meryl Streep), an independent hotelier in the Greek islands preparing for her daughter’s wedding.

IMDB continues: “Sophie (Amanda Seyfried) secretly invites three men from her mother’s past in hope of meeting her real father and having him escort her down the aisle on her big day.”

Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again! returns to the Greek island ten years later and Sophie is pregnant with her own child, seeking to find out more about her mom.

When is Mamma Mia sequel out?

Way back in 2008, the Hollywood studio chief David Linde, co-chairman of Universal Pictures told The Daily Mail there could be a sequel.

Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again is set for release Friday, July 20, 2018.

The movie will be written and directed by Ol Parker and will feature three ABBA songs.

The songs are: “When I Kissed the Teacher,” “I Wonder (Departure),” and “Angel Eyes.”

Principal photography on the Mamma Mia sequel started August 12, 2017, on the Croatian island of Vis

Filming of some of the song and dance numbers with Cher happened in October 2017 at Shepperton Studios in Surrey, England and filming wrapped on December 2, 2017.

Who is in Mamma Mia 2?

Plenty of the cast is set to reprise their roles.

Both Meryl Streep and Amanda Seyfried are returning as the Mamma Mia mother-daughter duo.

Mamma Mia’s three potential fathers Pierce Brosnan (Sam), Colin Firth (Harry) and Stellan Skarsgård (Bill) are all reprising their roles.

Each husband has a ‘young’ version of themselves, as does Donna (Streep) and her friends.

The young contingency features Jeremy Irvine (War Horse) as Young Sam, Hugh Skinner as Young Harry and Josh Dylan as Young Bill.

Young Donna is played by Lily James (War & Peace) as Young Donna in Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again.

Christine Baranski (The Good Wife) is returning to her role as Tanya Chesham-Leigh, one of Donna’s friends and former bandmates with her young-self played by Jessica Keenan Wynn.

Dame Julie Walters picks up her role once again as Rosie Mulligan with her young counterpart played by Alexa Davies.

Dominic Cooper is also set to return to the Greek island, still as Sophie’s fiancé.

On October 16, 2017, it was confirmed that American star Cher had joined the cast in her first on-screen film role since 2010.

Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again is set for release Friday, July 20, 2018.
