Margot Robbie is returning to the big screens as Harley Quinn, the Suicide Squad starlet. The movie will star Robbie as Harley Quinn, alongside a team of female superheroes from DC Comics. They include Oracle/Batgirl, Black Canary, Huntress, Catwoman, Hawkgirl, Power Girl, Poison Ivy, Vixen, and Katana (Karen Fukuhara). With plenty of DC Comics content ahead of us, the Harley Quinn solo movie will have to wow.

What is the official title of the Harley Quinn movie?

Taking to Instagram, Robbie shared the full title as Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn).

Yes, it’s a mouthful, and Robbie herself hasn’t argued that the title is incredibly long.

Speaking on Jimmy Fallon, Robbie said: “It’s not a very serious movie, so we thought the title should reflect that.

“Birds of Prey makes it sound very serious and that kind of — that’s kind of like Harley adding, ‘Hey, don’t worry I’m in this too!’”

Margot Robbie voiced her support for films with extraordinarily long names, too.

On Fallon, she made mention of the 2013 film The 100 Year Old Man Who Climbed Out the Window and Disappeared.

She said: “Long title, but I love it. It’s a great movie as well, you should watch it.”

Long titles are sometimes easier to remember for being atypical, and that can’t hurt the Birds of Prey film, which is going up against plenty of Suicide Squad/Batman related content.

Robbie confirmed Birds of Prey production will start early 2019.

The current release date is pegged as February 7, 2020, but that may change as production rolls forward.

The screenplay comes from Christina Hodson (Bumblebee), who was recently announced to be taking over DC’s Batgirl solo film in the wake of Joss Whedon’s exit from the project.

There is an official plot synopsis for Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) already up on IMDB.

It reads: “After splitting up with The Joker, Harley Quinn and three other female superheroes – Black Canary, Huntress and Renee Montoya – come together to save the life of a little girl named Cassandra Cain from an evil crime lord”

The cast includes Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Huntress, Jurnee Smollett-Bell as Black Canary, and Rosie Perez as Renee Montoya.

Cassandra Cain is played by Ella Jay Basco, and rumour has it she’s a young version of a one-time Robin from the Batman universe.

Ewan McGregor plays the aforementioned Gotham crime lord named Black Mask.

In addition to Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) a Suicide Squad sequel to be directed by Gavin O’Connor is in development.

The rumoured Harley Quinn Vs The Joker romance movie as well as Gotham City Sirens both seem to be on the backburner. For now.

Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) will be released in cinemas on February 7, 2020.
