There are still months to go until spring weather, and low temperatures have Brits searching for ways to stay warm.

With energy bills remaining high, having the central heating on full blast is no longer an option for everyone, as it comes at a cost.

Martin Lewis’ MoneySavingExpert suggests ways to ‘heat the human not the home’ and there’s one that can be used both inside and outside of the house.

The advice website champions the idea of layering clothes, and recommends starting with a a close-fitting base layer to ‘lock in heat’, such as the Decathlon ski base layer top.

Buy: Women’s ski base layer top (£5.99)

While some methods to keep warm include buying electric blankets and heated gilets, these can be costly in themselves.

Thermals are easy to wear underneath regular clothing, and Decathlon’s are on sale at the moment, making them a more affordable way to stay warm.

The brand’s leggings are a good option too, with soft and comfortable brushed lining and stretchy material that’s versatile enough for going from running errands to relaxing at home.

Although slightly more costly, MoneySavingExpert also highlights the M&S Heatgen thermals range, which includes a good variety of pieces for layering.

Despite the low price point, Decathlon’s thermals are highly rated, and as they are designed for being worn outdoors, shoppers describe them as ‘creating a barrier against the cold’.

Lesley said: ”I’ve been buying these for years. Wear them whilst volunteering at an outdoor theatre and around the house to reduce the need for heating. Comfortable and keep me toasty.”

Tamsin commented: ”Perfect base layer for added warmth when out walking on crisp, cold winter mornings.”

Lynda also added: ”It’s soooo warm. Creates a barrier against the cold as soon as I put it on.”
