Real reason Princess Anne 'deliberately' recycles old outfits laid bare by fashion expert

Princess Anne might well be the most fashion-forward member of the Royal Family. As a huge fan of both style and sustainability, the Princess Royal embraces a fashion ecosystem that invites royal fashion fans to think of the “broader implications for our planet and society” when it comes to clothing.

Fashion experts have weighed in on Princess Anne’s style agreeing she has a “great figure for tailored clothes” and has been holding onto pieces since the 1970s.

Fashion Expert Susie Nelson told Express.co.uk the Princess Royal is a fan of investment pieces she can wear again and again: “As a practical royal, she recycles her clothes and is keen on UK manufacturing, so these investment pieces from decades ago still make appearances – which is a wonderful example to set as a trailblazer for sustainable fashion.”

She added: “She likes bold colours and royals do have to be noticed. Some of her most iconic outfits were the fun florals of the 1960s and 1970s.”

A big fan of a bright statement coat, Princess Anne’s yellow and navy number has been worn at multiple high-profile events.

Princess Anne’s contrasting coat of choice comes complete with a matching hat which the royal wore to Lady Gabriella Windsor and the late Thomas Kingston’s wedding at St George’s Chapel on May 18, 2019.

The Princess wore the outfit again at Royal Ascot in 2009, alongside the late Queen Elizabeth II who wore shocking pink, complete with a matching hat.

Fashion expert, Fausta Urte Geigaite, told Express.co.uk re-wearing outfits is a “deliberate choice”. She explained: “This deliberate choice champions the philosophy that true style is not about relentless novelty but about the thoughtful curating of a wardrobe
that stands the test of time.

“It speaks to the importance of quality, craftsmanship, and the inherent beauty of garments that carry stories and histories within their threads.”

In another daring ensemble, Princess Anne wore a teal blue dress coat to the Ascot Races in June 1991 and styled it exactly the same way down to the hat, brooch, dark-coloured gloves and shoes to her brother Charles’s wedding to Camilla at Guildhall in Windsor on April 9, 2005.

Ms Geigaite thinks recycled fashion is a “call to action” for people to be more mindful when it comes to fashion. She said: “It underscores the fact that style and sustainability can co-exist, guiding us towards a more responsible and environmentally conscious mode of fashion.”

Princess Anne was also a vision of elegance during her recent Easter Sunday service appearance in Windsor, where she wore a lime-green wool coat that has been in her wardrobe since at least 2015.

She added caramel-hued suede boots to her look, accessorising with brown leather gloves and a brown saddle bag. To match, she chose a forest green beret-style hat adorned with an emerald bow and black feathers.
